Fix Google Shopping landing page and URL errors

Google can't reach your product page? Run five checks on the link: the link uses your verified domain, robots.txt doesn't block the page, the URL is well formed, shoppers see the product with no sign-in step first, and the page works on mobile and desktop. Start with one disapproved product and test the exact link Merchant Center was sent.

Product disapproved because Google can't reach your product page? Run these five checks on the link.

  1. The link uses your verified domain. It must be the domain you verified in Merchant Center. Any redirects should stay on that same domain.
  2. Google can crawl the page. Check that robots.txt isn't blocking it.
  3. The URL is well formed. It starts with http or https, uses ASCII only and is under 2,000 characters. Symbols and spaces are URL-encoded, so & becomes %26.
  4. Shoppers see the product right away. No sign-in, registration or other step before the product details, except a legally required page such as an age check.
  5. It works on mobile and desktop. That's required even if you also send a mobile_link.

Good habits from the same page: keep URLs stable (no timestamps), link with the right variant pre-selected, keep redirects to a minimum, and if you use ValueTrack parameters for Shopping ads, put them in ads_redirect instead of link (ads_redirect only affects Shopping ad clicks, not free listings).

Next step: open one disapproved product in Merchant Center, copy the exact link value it was sent, open it in a private browser window on your phone, and check it against the five checks on the link above. Fix one thing, then wait for Google to recrawl before calling it resolved.

Not covered here: why a specific store's page failed. That needs the store's own Merchant Center diagnostics.

Synthetic example (made up for illustration, not a real store)

Before: http://shop-example.com/products/tee?ref=feed&ts=1698000000 (unverified domain variant, timestamp in URL)

After: https://www.example.com/products/tee?variant=123 (verified domain, stable, variant pre-selected)
